Are You A Prisoner Of The Shopping Malls??

If your ears prick up each time you hear a advert pushing the next big sale as others get restless when the next cigarette is mentioned it maybe time to do something about your possible shopping addiction. You could be really really harsh on yourself and go cold turkey by cutting up all of your credit cards but in todays free spending society it's easy enough to get another one (and if your were that proactive you probably wouldn't be spending like there was no tomorrow anyway).

So exactly where to start? Like most problems the best place to start your change is admitting you have a bit of a problem with money, that you have an addiction to shopping. Until you sincerely take this on board nothing is going to change. Go through your house, do you have cupboards full of things that haven't been opened let alone used, clothes still unworn, shoes still in their original boxes with the tissue still stuffed in the toes? Thats a sure sign that something is not quite right in your fiscal world. Recognition is only the first step. Yes it can be one BIG frightening step but it's important to follow it up with some constructive action. Which is STOP... Stop beating yourself up about the shopping as you are likely or not going to be looking for something to fix the hurt and that could well be ... more shopping. Thats only going to hurt your more and the spiral downwards is only going to get faster. Next important move is to not give yourself an excuse enhancing label like "I'm a compulsive shopper" because you are in danger of creating a feeling of victimhood that could well give you permission to continue on with the unwanted behaviour beating yourself up even more than you deserve. Instead give any label a positive slant - calling yourself a descerning shopper who can see advertising and marketing for the potential trap that it is will free the pressure on you, as will the fact you can analysie your wardrobe, kitchen, workshop etc allowing you to buy what you need. But watch it - a born again shopper like anyother born again is potentially a boring person.
The next trick is to stop using shopping malls as a social event. This is differcult when at times we have 24 / 7 shopping but just keep in mind the world is a big wonderful place with plenty to occupy the soul - you only need to keep your eyes open and go exploring elsewhere to keep your shopping desires at bay. Finally giving yourself both a financial and time budget for shopping that you or better still a freind / family member / partner can enforce making sure that should you go over budget one week you trim your expenditure the next. Above all else do whats best for you as there is no one magic bullet - it's a case of finding a means that works best for you... But please remember unless you are a super hero you are likely to fail one way or another and should you do so the world ain't going to swallow you up, learn from it and start over. If you truly want change mistakes are there to be learnt from.
