Uses for Hypnosis

Hypnosis, the modern name given to an ancient art by the great Dr Braid comes from the Greek word hypnos or sleep. It is the method of creating what at face value is an almost sleep like state in people who are open to being hypnotized. It's worth noting that everyone should they so desire can be hypnotized, although some people can be guided to a deeper state of hypnosis than others. The only people who maybe unable to be hypnotised are the very old or young or those who through intellectual frailty can't focus sufficiently.

While often I may talk about sleep Hypnosis is not actually sleep, but rather an altered state of consciousness, where the subject is still alert, and able to speak / hear and if necessary move around while in their state of trance.

The techniques of hypnotic induction have been in use in one form or another for thousands of years dating back to the sleep temples of Egypt, the Greek Oracles, the old Indian Fakirs to medieval magicians. The first hypnotherapist of 'modern' times is said to be Franz Anton Mesmer with the use of this marvelous tool continuing on today in wide use in clinical self-help and therapy programs.
